President's Message

Membership is on my mind. Anytime between now and January 1 you can renew your membership in your local AFRW club. Why wait? Because we are heading into a Presidential election year, it’s more important than ever for us to show we are ready to defeat Hillary Clinton, defend our Republican incumbents and challenge Democrats in Republican-leaning districts.

By renewing your membership now – and encouraging other Republican women you know to join our ranks, you help us send the message that our Republican base is intact and we are ready to fight for our core Republican principles. As women concerned about the future of our government and our country, this is serious business.

And what will AFRW do for you? We will communicate with you through our online newsletter and our website; we will provide many enjoyable opportunities for you to network with other like-minded women and we will utilize your talents planning events and fundraisers for our candidates.

Your AFRW Board will meet in Anchorage in December to develop our 2008 campaign plan. Whatever your level of involvement might be now, we thank you for your participation and encourage you to take an even more active role in your club in 2008. We’ve made a difference in the past and have every intention of doing so in the future.

Anchorage Republican Women – Cathy Giessel, President

At the October meeting, the ARWC enjoyed a very informative presentation, Gas Line 101, presented by Representative Ralph Samuels. Rep. Samuels has done the presentation for many groups around the state. It is very helpful to become familiar with the meaning of the technical terms and the types of issues that have to be addressed for a gas pipeline.

On November 8, the ARWC will hold its Annual Meeting. Bylaw revisions will be voted on and new 2008 officers will be elected. In addition, this meeting will feature a "Republican Women in Fashion" style show. Clothing will be furnished by Club member, Siri Schlief, owner of Siri's Boutique, with Club members of all ages participating as models. The style show planning is being done by Judy Eledge.

Capital City Republican Women – Connie McKenzie, President

Capital City Republican Women has a very busy end-of-year planned. Governor Palin has again invited us to the Residence in a few weeks to decorate the Governor's House for the holiday season, and we will also be helping to greet guests during the annual Christmas Open House on Friday. December 14th .

Our next membership meeting will be held November 12th and Rep. Ralph Samuels is going to give his “Half Full, Half Empty – a glance at the State’s Economy” presentation. On November 17th we will roll up our sleeves for a work party to address Christmas cards to our troops, address invitation to our annual Women in Red Tea to be held December 9th , and put together fabrics that can be used in Patriotic quilt squares. These are great opportunities to involve a lot of members and have some fun.

Fairbanks Republican Women - Linda Manns, President

October was a snowy but eventful month in Fairbanks and the Fairbanks Republican Women’s annual membership tea was elegant and wonderful. We were honored to have Catherine Stevens and Senator Lisa Murkowski as guests, and Vicki Hills hospitality was equal to her beautiful home. The club is working on the National Federation Soccer Ball project and we are busy planning our next event which is the Christmas Party and “red” auction.

Several of the women supported the Alaska Republican State Central Committee meeting here in October. We auctioned two bottles of the AFRW wine that was donated by Paulette Simpson (CCRW) and Chris Duke (FRW) as well as a cookbook signed by Presidential Candidate, Fred Thompson. The Federation women in attendance hustled those tickets and we successfully raised $1,000.00 for the AFRW. It was easy and fun!!

We in Fairbanks believe that as Republican women leaders we must reach out and inspire new leaders and provide opportunities for their leadership development. That is where our future lies in the Republican Party and the Federation of Republican Women.

First City Republican Women - Sandra Meske, President

The FCRW met mid-October to send out soldier boxes for Christmas. We also had our nomination committee report on a slate of officers; President-Laura Antonsen, VP-Sandra Meske, Secretary-Susan Stone, and Treasure-Chere Klein-Enright. Our annual meeting is planned for the first week of December. We are also patiently waiting for our book order of "Little Miss Patriot" to distribute out to our elementary school libraries.

Kenai Peninsula Republican Women – Carol Brenckle, President

Hello to all you Republican ladies in Alaska. Four of your fellow republican ladies from the Mat-Su Valley attended the National Republican conference in Palm Springs last month. The list included Glenda Ledford, Pat Purcell, Judith Carmony, and Alice Massie. A good time was had by all. I Alice Massie attended campaign school and the most important message portrayed at the school was "GET OUT AND VOTE". We as members have a job to encourage everyone to vote.

Mat-Su is busily getting ready for the great pre-holiday gathering at Senator Lyda Green's. Many vendors with great Christmas ideas along with lots of yummy food will have a chance to come together and share before the holiday's approach. Everyone is invited on November 17, 2007 at 4000 Palm dale Drive Wasilla, AK 99654. For more information please contact Alice Massie at 907-376-5667.
