President's Message

Will I see you at the Alaska Republican Convention in mid-March in Anchorage? Even if you are not a delegate or alternate to Convention, if you live in the greater Anchorage area, I hope you take time to drop by the Captain Cook and visit our AFRW booth on the main convention floor. We'll be selling our Alaska Republican vests and will have a nice display featuring our elected Alaska Republican women and our candidates who will be challenging Democrats in November.

Speaking of our vests...they are high quality, unisex reversible red/navy fleece - perfect for Republican picnics, work parties or better yet, to wear any time at all! Through the convention we will be selling them for $35 each. Pick up one for yourself and another for a gift.

Our Republican women across the state worked very hard on all things Republican over the past couple of months - from the Presidential Preference poll to District Conventions and Lincoln Day Dinners. This is how we continue to present a strong, clear, principled commitment to our Party and our American ideals. It's also how we show our gratitude for the incredible opportunities we have as Americans to organize ourselves politically and advocate for our beliefs.

Thanks for all you do for our state and our Republican Party. See you at Convention!

I just completed the counting of Super Tuesday Out Of District ballots this evening! Wow, that Feb. 5 event was fabulous! There was such enthusiastic participation! And Republican women around the state worked so hard to make the event a success! THANK YOU, all of you! On Feb. 6 I sent out an invitation to send in suggestions to improve the process, if we do it again. Lots of input was received, with some great suggestions.

We are now completing work on the ARP State Convention arrangements. I have a team of wonderful, skilled people addressing the various aspects of the Convention. It will be a very exciting event and a great time to reconnect with friends around the state, and to make new friends! We are thrilled that Governor Palin and Lt. Governor Parnell will be joining us during the Convention. And Lincoln Day at the Convention will feature Michael Steele as keynote speaker. I look forward to seeing many of you here in Anchorage in March!

The FRW Club are supporting Two Outstanding Candidates, Sue Hull for State House and Cynthia Henry for State Senate. We are looking forward to the State Convention and the opportunity to convene with the other Republican Women candidates that are running for office. AFRW will host a booth and offer an opportunity for candidates to display their fliers, bumper stickers, and fundraising envelopes.

Super Tuesday's Presidential Preference Poll and District Conventions in Anchorage found many ARWC women actively involved. They could be seen coming to vote, working the polls, attending and presiding over District meetings, participating in committee meetings, elected as District Officers, and leaving as State Delegates to the Republican State Convention, March 13-15. Many of these members had been preparing ahead of time to assure a successful event.

Our monthly meeting was February 14th at the Petroleum Club featuring ARWC member, Crystal Kennedy, who is also an ASD School Board Member. Her talk informed us of current school board activities and bond issues as well as what it?s like to run for office. Her encouraging talk will hopefully spur others to run for an elected office or work on an active campaign. Our Fundraising Committee used Valentine's Day as an opportunity to raise money by auctioning colorful Valentine bags filled with gifts.

On February 5, CCRW helped out with a very exciting Preferential Preference Poll in Juneau. We had a strong and steady turnout and were able to register about 130 new Republicans at the event. Juneau also held their District convention the same evening and CCRW will be sending eleven of its members to the State Convention, including two new members who joined that evening.

We held our monthly membership meeting on February 11^th with guest speaker Tamar DeFranco of Conoco Phillips to discuss their gas line proposal. February 19th, we welcomed U.S. Senator Ted Stevens to town as our special guest at Lincoln Day Dinner.

Coming up in March we look forward to hosting Holly Robichaud, "The Lone Republican" columnist for the Boston Herald, as our monthly luncheon guest speaker as we celebrate Women's History Month. Also on the agenda for March will be a visit by U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski for which we are putting together a Republican Reception. People were excited about the upcoming election on Super Tuesday and we are working to keep the interest going.

We are just now getting our pictures from the Christmas party at Eielson Air Force Base in December. The FRW brought nearly fifty gifts and collected $500.00 from a silent auction for children whose parents are members of the 164th Air National Guard. One hundred children received gifts from "Santa." Our own, Major Robin Barrett, a member of FRW, coordinated the event.

We had a successful Lincoln Day Dinner with Paula Easley as speaker and Senator Ted Stevens as guest. Our next meeting will be held March 8th at Zach's restaurant. We plan to honor FRW who have contributed so much to our community. Just recently, Gerry Benshoof has been nominated to serve on the State Board of Education. Cynthia Henry and Sue Hull, both candidates running for State Senate and District 9 will let us know how we can help their campaigns.

First City Republican Women - Laura Antonsen, President

In this important presidential election year, we have decided to reinstate our monthly meetings. Generally, FCRW meets the 4th Monday of each month.

CONGRATULATIONS! FCRW immediate past-president Sandra Meske was elected to serve as Chair for District 1 Republicans.

Our Winter/Spring schedule includes:

Feb. 25 - Soldier Box social. Meet to pack boxes for local soldiers serving in Iraq, Afganistan and other places.

March 31 - Votes for Women Soup and Salad Social. Fundraiser & membership drive. We will have a team-quiz "Are You Smarter than a Republican Woman"? American History quiz, door prizes, and votes for women fundraiser for the AFRW.

April - TBA - Red-State Elephant Garage & Dessert Sale and Social. Held on a Saturday morning, we will encourage young Republican women to participate by baking goods, selling coffee and talking politics (and taking Democrat's money).

Midnight Sun Republican Women - Holly Kelty, President

MSRWC's February meeting focused on housekeeping items. Club was updated on upcoming activities including State Republican Party Convention, Campaign School 101, Lincoln Day Dinner, Quilt Auction, Red Vests and AFRW Dues and Votes for Women Fundraiser. Remainder of the meeting was dedicated to our current fundraising project, our Brunch Cookbook, scheduled to debut at the State Convention. Not glamorous...but an extremely informative and productive meeting.
